macOS Finder Renaming Tips
Quickly re-name several files by using the macOS Finder Renaming contextual menu feature.
As long as the file names are already in the order that is needed, running a couple different options of the Re-Name tool will give you a nice, tidy set of files.
Re-Name with Sequential Numbering
Step 1 - Select files and choose "Rename..."
Step 2 - Choose "Format" option
Step 3 - Enter common text for files
Result - Sequentially numbered files with custom name
Replace Excess Zeros
When using the numbering option, the default settings create five digit numbers, which is usually a bit excessive for file naming if not necessary. It’s easy to remove them though by running another set of batch renaming using the Replace option.
Step 1 - Select all files to change
Step 2 - Choose "Replace" re-naming option
Step 3 - Enter the matching data to remove "_000" and replace with "_0"
Result - Two digit numbering
